Shape. Shift. Strip. Strengthen. Simplify.

This project explores the form of the farm stool as a familiar, functional base and examines what happens when its materiality, details, and expression are gradually altered. Each change raises questions about why we add or remove, and how it impacts both the object and our experience of it.

SHAGGY

Exploring the ancient Norwegian tradition of 'Styving,' our project 'Shaggy' is deeply rooted in the forest, drawing inspiration from its rich ecosystem. Originating from the necessity to address animal food shortages, 'Styving' involved farmers trimming tree branches for feed. Today, these trimmed trees serve as vital habitats for endangered fungi and moss in native forests.

Crafted from cuttings of 'Styving' trees sourced from Norwegian farms, our light installation 'Shaggy' showcases the intricate beauty of sustainable design. These branches undergo a transformative process, including bark removal and steam-bending techniques, resulting in a striking three-dimensional aesthetic.

The design of the installation Shaggy is an international collaboration between Ronja Reigstad and the Germany-based designer Jule Appuhn.
